Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter primarily produced by neurons and pancreatic beta cells. GABA functional receptors (GABR) are expressed in brain, pancreas and peripheral blood lymphomononuclear cells (PBMC).
